SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Greater Lake Tahoe and Markleeville areas from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
NWS Reno says to expect heavy snow above the 7000-foot level with snow accumulation of 6-12 inches, with up to two feet along the Sierra Crest. Snow accumulation at lake level is expected to be 1-3 inches.
The forecast includes ridge winds up to 80 mph.
Travel could be very difficult, especially through mountain passes such as Donner Pass, Carson Pass, and Ebbetts Pass. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Light snow showers may create minor travel impacts early Monday afternoon before heavier snow arrives Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
