SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – There are 2,200 different No Kings Day of Action events planned across the United States on Saturday, October 18, and there will be one in South Lake Tahoe. Residents will join others in the second No Kings peaceful protest as they gather at Lakeview Commons from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Nearby protests are also being held in Truckee, Woodfords, Carson City, Reno and Kings Beach. For a list of all events, visit https://www.nokings.org/.
“Donald Trump is trying to become a King,” said Susan Chandler, chairperson for the South Lake Tahoe Democrats Club. “He is defying courts, ruling by executive actions, ignoring checks and balances, sending militarized troops against Americans and weaponizing the Justice Department against his perceived political enemies. He is destroying public health standards, environmental safeguards, and renewable energy initiatives. As this is occurring, we are witnessing historic levels of inflation, unemployment and cuts to necessary government services such as FEMA, Medicaid, the ACA, SNAP, wildfire response and Social Security. All of this while billionaires are receiving massive tax cuts. We are seeing Democracy being eliminated on a daily basis. We join over 2500 communities around the US in peaceful protest to stop this madness and to save Democracy.”
Colleen Bye, South Lake Tahoe Indivisible leader, said, “This community has been my home for over 30 years, and I carry its people and our shared future in my heart. The No Kings event is about standing shoulder to shoulder to defend our democracy, protect our planet, and raise our voices for those who cannot yet safely raise their own.”
On June 14, more than five million people across all 50 states joined No Kings in the largest single-day protest yet against President Trump’s authoritarianism.
The October 18 day of action is the next step in this growing movement, channeling that energy into yet another coordinated, peaceful mobilization.
We’re excited to join with other groups organizing the No Kings peaceful protests across the country, including ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, 50501, Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible, League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Nurses United, Public Citizen, SEIU, among others. A full list of partners can be seen at www.nokings.org/partners.
All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.
