SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 21, the council moved Mayor Pro Tem Cody Bass to serve as mayor through December 9. At that time, the council will conduct its annual leadership meeting, dividing up all duties, including the selection of a mayor and mayor pro tem.
Council approved Bass by a vote of 4-0, knowing he would have been filling the duties as mayor pro tem anyway. With a divided council, it was obvious at the meeting that they would be unable to select a mayor pro tem from the remaining three members, so that seat will remain vacant until December, when there will be five members to vote and a better chance of a majority vote.
The City of South Lake Tahoe has opened the application process to fill the City Council seat vacated by former Mayor Tamara Wallace after she resigned on October 13.
Application materials are available here, on the City Council website, and at City Hall during normal business hours. The City Clerk will be accepting applications from registered voters of the City of South Lake Tahoe from October 24 to November 12 at 4:00 p.m. At their November 18, 5:30 p.m. meeting, the City Council will hear presentations and conduct interviews of applicants and may appoint a member to serve the remaining term of office, which is until December 2026.
The City Clerk may be contacted for additional information at 530-542-6005 or sblankenship@cityofslt.gov
