CARSON CITY, Nev. — Dark Prison Haunted House has been recognized as one of the nation’s elite haunted attractions, earning a coveted spot on the Haunted Attraction Association’s (HAA) 2025 “Iconic Haunts” Platinum List. The Haunted Attraction Association—the only official organization representing the haunted house industry—certifies top attractions nationwide that meet its rigorous standards in safety, operations, and guest experience.

This year, the HAA named 67 Top Haunts across the country, including 53 Iconic (Platinum) attractions operating for more than 10 years and drawing over 10,000 annual visitors. Dark Prison Haunted House joins this distinguished group,
representing the highest level of excellence in the haunted attraction industry.

“Being named a Top Haunt is one of the highest honors in our industry,” said Jim Werner, president of the Haunted Attraction Association. “The Top Haunts program has always represented the best of the best,” added Brett Molitor, HAA Top Haunts Director. “This year’s 67 certified attractions showcase the strength and creativity of the haunted attraction industry across all sizes and markets.”

As the only Nevada haunt and one of just a handful of West Coast attractions to receive Platinum recognition, this honor highlights the strength of Northern Nevada’s creative community. Produced by Dark Corner Creative, the event
showcases the work of local artists, builders, and performers who transformed the historic Nevada State Prison into a nationally acclaimed haunted experience. In its first season at the prison, following a long history of productions in Reno, Dark Prison Haunted House welcomed over 14,000 guests across 17 nights, helping to support the ongoing preservation and awareness of one of Nevada’s oldest landmarks.

“This is an incredible honor and really rewards all the hard work and dedication that comes from each creative that helps put this haunted house together,” states Guinivere Clark, VP of Operations for Dark Corner Creative. “From the actors, to the builders, putting up walls, wiring speakers and lights, it’s a huge production that takes hundreds to thousands of hours. Being recognized on the top haunts list at all validates so much of that hard work.”
