SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The South Tahoe High School (STHS) Vikings hosted the 3a Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) Northern Regionals Friday and Saturday, and the hosts came out on top.

In Friday’s first round action for the boys, Truckee beat Elko 3-1, and Spring Creek fell to South Tahoe 6-1. That put the Truckee Wolverines against the STHS Vikings into the Saturday finals, with South Tahoe outlasting Truckee, 3-2.

In the girls’ bracket, day one of the regional semifinals on Friday pitted South Tahoe against Truckee, with the Vikings emerging as victors, 2-1, after two overtimes. North Truckee beat Elko 1-0 after one overtime. In Saturday’s regional finals, it took another overtime to put South Tahoe on top against North Tahoe, 1-0.

The Vikings boys and girls teams now head to Las Vegas for the NIAA State Championship, November 7 and 8 at Cristo Rey as the number one seeds from the north.

For the girls, South Tahoe meets Equipo at 1 p.m. Friday while North Tahoe plays againt Virgin Valley at 9 a.m. The winners play Saturday at 10 a.m. to determine the state champ.

On the boys side, South Tahoe plays against Moapa Valley at 3 p.m. while Truckee gets things started against Virgin Valley at 11 a.m. The winners of those games meet up Saturday at noon for the championship.
