DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – School Trustee for District 6, Katherine Dickerson, has resigned from the Douglas County School Board. She was missing from Tuesday’s meeting, which was to be her last one.

On November 12, Dickerson sent a letter to her Board President, Yvonne Wagstaff, notifying her that she would resign on November 30, 2025, due to family illness. On November 20, the date of the meeting, Dickerson sent an email to district staff stating she could not be at the meeting due to a pet with failing health.

She asked that Wagstaff read her final statement:

“I want to be very clear, I am resigning due to an illness in my family that will be needing my constant attention. I would like to leave you all with this. We as a district spend great time and effort to combat bullying. When all of us as adults are in the public, or anytime really, choose to be kind and compassionate when you are disappointed or have great dislike for someone of something. If you can do that then you know that you have truly become an excellent example to our kiddos and all of humanity. Be blessed.”

Superintendent Frankie Alvarado said a search would begin immediately for someone to finish Dickerson’s term which ends in December 2026. This was her first term.
