SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.. – Over 250 dinner guests came together for a warm, full-course meal and the opportunity to connect with others at Bread & Broth’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner. This special event took place on Monday evening at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Grace Hall. Attendees enjoyed a classic Thanksgiving feast featuring
turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, home-made cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, fresh rolls, and a selection of pies for dessert. In addition to the meal, guests received food giveaway bags filled with dairy products such as eggs, butter, and milk, along with fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, pastries, meat, and canned goods.
The preparations for this annual celebration began several days in advance, with Bread & Broth’s dedicated volunteer cooks working diligently to prepare and cook the meal. Bread & Broth volunteers and servers transformed Grace Hall with festive Fall decorations and homemade placemats, which were crafted by children enrolled in St. Theresa’s Religious Education program. These volunteers devoted countless hours to ensure the event’s success, motivated by the understanding of its significance for many in the Tahoe South Shore community who might otherwise go without a holiday meal. For some volunteers, this event holds personal meaning, as they once relied on similar services themselves. As one volunteer shared, “Once I was ‘here,’ receiving these services with my kids, and now volunteering with
Bread & Broth is a great way to give back.”
The evening’s atmosphere was further enhanced by live entertainment from Mickey Holiday, a regular performer at Bread & Broth’s Monday Meals. His 1950s Frank Sinatra-style melodies captivated the audience, with many attendees noting that the music contributed to the evening’s joy and sense of togetherness.
For many attendees, this Thanksgiving dinner was the only holiday meal they would enjoy this year. One guest expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “My family and I can’t afford Thanksgiving dinner this year, so this dinner is absolutely fantastic. Our family is so glad for this delicious meal and the time we can share it with family.”
The success of this annual event is made possible by the many generous financial contributions of Bread & Broth donors from the South Shore community and beyond. Bread & Broth appreciates the support of local businesses, including Smart & Final, which donated sixty pies, and Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino, which contributed 600 rolls for the Thanksgiving meal. Bread & Broth extends its thanks to community residents, all donors, local businesses, and the dedicated volunteers who once again provided a festive holiday meal for those in need.
