SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The next South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 13. Closed session starts at 8 a.m. and open session at 9 a.m.

The regular session starts with the selection of the mayor and mayor pro tem for the year. Those selected will assume their positions immediately.

The consent agenda includes the purchase of two code enforcement vehicles, three fire department light vehicles, fuel reduction projects, and reimbursement from Southwest Gas for road rehabilitation in areas where they cut into the pavement.

In regular business:

The Council will vote on extending an additional $1,000,000 from the City’s Undesignated Excess Reserve funds for Novin’s purchase of 3900/3908 Lake Tahoe Blvd. for affordable/workforce housing.

Discussion and vote on a Shelter Pass Program, which will be a joint effort between the City’s Housing Division, Police Department, and Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless. The City received $80,000 from El Dorado County to fund the program. Those in need will receive motel stays of 1 to 3 nights, depending on the
situation, until medical or environmental conditions improve, or a more suitable long-term situation can be arranged (but can be extended to 7 nights in some cases).

Reimbursement Agreement with South Tahoe Transit Joint Powers Authority. El Dorado County recently voted not pay their share, even though they had a contract. The City’s share is $51,551, but the Council could vote to approve covering the County’s portion (a total of $77,326). These monies would be used to create the new JPA and create a new local bus service to county and city areas. If the Transit JPA does not receive funding, the City Council may consider terminating the JPA
agreement, which requires a 120-day notice to El Dorado County.

Council will also vote on its regular meeting schedule, assignments to agencies and committees, and protocols.
