Thanks to Vail’s EpicPromise Grant, Kirkwood Mountain Resort hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on January 12.  The grant provides funding for 12 annual Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorships, which enables Kirkwood Mountain Resort to alternate sponsorship months with Heavenly Mountain Resort.   With January being the designated month for Kirkwood to sponsor a meal, Kirkwood team members Natasha Buffo, Dan Deemer, and Josh James joined the Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers to serve community members a hot, full-course dinner.

B&B, a ministry of St. Theresa Church and an all-volunteer organization, has been easing hunger for the vulnerable members of the South Lake Tahoe community since 1989 by serving a free weekly meal.  Over the last 20 years, a second meal on Fridays at the Lake Tahoe Presbyterian Church was added to support the growing need in the community.  Most recently, the B&B 4 Kids’ program was introduced to provide kid-friendly, healthy weekend food to children from the ages of 18 months through 18 years of age.

B&B programs, including AAD sponsorships, are made possible by contributions from generous individuals, organizations, congregations, businesses, and grants.  The AAD sponsorships hold special significance, enabling sponsors to participate in and experience the beneficial impact of their contributions on those in need. 

Both Natasha and Dan have been frequent AAD volunteers, while the evening’s meal service was a first for Josh.   After helping set up and serving dinner, Josh shared some thoughts about his experience. 

“I have been living in South Lake Tahoe for five years, and this is my first day with this program,” said Josh. “Just being here gives me so much pride in this community, passion for the compassion, and immense gratitude for this organization.  Thank you for having me, I will be back!”
