SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Boys and Girls Wrestling Teams at South Tahoe High School recently concluded their Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) 3A regional tournaments. They will be heading to the State Tournament at the Winnemucca Events Center on February 13 and 14.

The girls competed in the single division Girls Northern Regional at Reed High School and finished in 7th place out of 29 schools.  Advancing to the state tournament will be Diem Johnson, Alice Lilly and Galilea Zarate.  Johnson and Lilly are returning state placers and will look to improve upon their 3rd-place finishes last year.

On the boy’s side, the team was led by Erik Burkett, who was the 3A Regional Champion at 190 pounds and will head into the state tournament as the #1 seed in his weight class.  Joining Burkett at the state tournament will be Aidan Damaoan, William Causing and Connor Hennessee.  As a team, the boys also finished 7th in the 3A Northern Regionals.

As a program, the teams have persevered through a grueling season with some adversity and late-season injuries.

“Both teams showed a lot of character in the way they came together as a team, and some extraordinary individual efforts at the Regional Tournament. We are looking forward to using these next few days to get healthy and focused for the state tournament,” said Boys and Girls coaches, Robert Hook and Gary Whitehouse.
