The Lake Tahoe Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) thanks all who made the presentation of Our Revolution on March 25, 2026, a success, including our community attendees. This program, along with school presentations this week, was made possible through Tahoe Arts Project’s Living Voices program. We extend special thanks to Executive Director Peggy Blowney and actor Jesse Smith for a powerful performance.

Mr. Smith portrayed Peter, a free Black colonist, offering a compelling perspective on the American Revolution and the promise of “all men are created equal.” Through live performance and video backdrop, the story illustrated how families were divided during the conflict, as Peter chose to fight for his freedom and land while others supported the British. His journey represents the birth of a new nation and the first generation of African Americans.

We also thank our event supporters, including LTCC and its staff, and local businesses that provided refreshments: Starbucks on Emerald Bay Road, Safeway on Johnson Blvd., and Whole Foods Market. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

As our nation’s 250th Celebration begins, we invite students, parents, and teachers to explore the DAR website, which offers extensive educational and genealogical resources. Our local chapter of the DAR meets on the third Saturday of the month from 10 – noon at the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District at Elks Point. If you are interested in seeing if you, too, have a patriot in your family tree, contact Chapter Regent Jini Becktell at jinibecktell@gmail.com for more information.
