Tahoe Prom Closet founders Natasha Chavez (L) and Holly Humlick (R)

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After receiving an outpouring of support from the community, the Tahoe Prom Closet has announced two upcoming free shopping events for local high school students in preparation for prom season.

Founded by local residents  Natasha Chavez and Holly Humlick, the Tahoe Prom Closet was created with a simple but meaningful goal: to ensure that every student has access to formalwear and can feel confident and celebrated on prom night. Thanks to the generosity of the South Lake Tahoe community, that vision has quickly become a reality.

Over the past several weeks, hundreds of donations have poured in, including formalwear, shoes, and accessories. The response has exceeded expectations and reflects the strong spirit of community that South Lake Tahoe is known for.

To share these donations, two free “shopping” events will be held on Thursday, April 30. All local high school students are invited to attend and select formalwear items at no cost.

The first event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at South Tahoe High School in Room SV203. A second event will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sessions Salon, located at 3320 Sandy Way in South Lake Tahoe.

This effort builds on the organizers’ ongoing commitment to community-driven initiatives.  Chavez and Humlick have previously hosted local clothing swaps, and the Tahoe Prom Closet is a natural extension of their shared passion for sustainability, accessibility, and community connection.

“Our community really showed up in a big way,” said Chavez. “What started as a simple idea has turned into something so much bigger, and we’re just excited to be able to give back to local students in a meaningful way.”

All items at the events will be completely free, and no registration is required. Students are encouraged to come browse, try things on, and find something that makes them feel their best for prom night.
