SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After decades of service, American Legion Post 795 Is fighting to stay open. The Legion has been a place where veterans and the community come together in South Lake Tahoe. It’s where friendships are built, stories are shared, and support continues long after service ends. Today, that place is in danger of closing its doors.
Since COVID, the Post has struggled to recover. Hall rentals, once a major source of income, have slowed significantly, while monthly expenses have climbed to around $8,000 – just to keep the doors open! Like many small community organizations, the Legion is doing everything it can to adapt, but it cannot do it alone.
Many don’t realize that the Legion’s bar is now open to the public, no membership required. It’s a welcoming, laid-back space where anyone can stop in, enjoy a drink, and support a meaningful cause simply by being there.
This is about more than a building. It’s about preserving a place that
honors veterans, supports families, and brings people together. Losing it would mean losing a piece of the community itself – the building was once an early school on the South Shore, and a beloved Community Center.
There are ways to help right now.
Join them on May 8 during South Tahoe High School’s Family Fun Night, and again on May 30 for a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. You can also support by booking the
hall, stopping by for a drink, or spreading the word.
Now more than ever, American Legion Post 795 needs the community it has always served. With your help, we can keep this place, and everything it represents, alive.
