SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – While the Caltrans schedule still needs to be firmed up, their crews will be in South Lake Tahoe starting this month to complete three major projects. Caltrans is working with its Nevada counterparts (NDOT) on the final schedule. Caltrans, the City of South Lake Tahoe, and El Dorado County are the three agencies responsible for roads on the California side of the South Shore.
Caltrans projects:
US 50, El Dorado County, from State Route 89 “Y” to Pioneer Trail (north) through South Lake Tahoe
- What: Lighting and Safety Project (pedestrian beacons at crosswalks, new traffic light, new street lights)
- When: April – October
- Expected Delays: Possible delays of up to 5 minutes during peak periods
US 50, El Dorado County, in Meyers near Apache Avenue
- What: Pedestrian Flashing Beacon/Crosswalk
- When: June – August
- Expected Delays: One-way traffic control with delays up to 10 minutes
ED 89 from Luther Pass to Meyers
- What: Pavement Rehabilitation Project
- When: May – September
- Expected Delays: One-way traffic control at multiple locations with total delays up to 30 minutes

El Dorado County
Annual grind and pave project on the West Shore and the South Shore: 2026 DOT SLT Maintenance Pavement Rehabilitation Projects on Cedar Ridge Road, Pioneer Trail Frontage Road, Washoan Boulevard, Thunderbird Drive, Southern Pines Drive, Navahoe Drive, E San Bernardino Avenue, San Diego Street, Hopi Avenue, Bellevue Avenue, Scenic Drive, Tahoe Mountain, Mt Diablo Circle, Granite Mountain Circle and Mountain Meadows Drive.
Roundabout at Pioneer Trail/US50 is ongoing, some final elements – permanent lighting, signs, cameras.
- Fallen Leaf Lake road – almost 3 miles of potholes from SR89 to Tahoe Mountain Road. Next year, possible improvements from the campground to the highway with new lanes.
- Next year – Fall of 2027 – Johnson Meadow Greenway bridge from Sierra Blvd/Barbara, and crossing at Lodi into the forested area at Winnemucca.
