A rare occurrence of Orographic Lift blessed the town of South Lake Tahoe on June 13. This phenomenon develops when a moving mass of air is forced over a mountain, resulting in rapid cooling and cloud formation. Combined with the sunset and alpen glow effect, it created some of the coolest looking clouds you could ever see only in the mountains. During this time it resembled an explosion, then continued to grow as the sun set.
