SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – ‘Sharing the Spirit of America’, a program that commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, invites everyone to come together and participate on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The first public reading of the document took place in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.
Across the globe, there will be a simultaneous nationwide reading of the Declaration of Independence. To connect Americans across the map, a coordinated, synchronized reading will take place across multiple time zones. ‘Sharing the Spirit of America’ will have Americans reading the Declaration of Independence, ‘together’ from the Caribbean Sea (US Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico), across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and across the Pacific (including Guam and Northern Mariana Islands)/ Americans in other countries will also be joining the patriotic celebration.
Wherever you are, the reading will correspond to 6 p,m, Eastern Daylight Time, or 3 p.m. in South Lake Tahoe.
In South Lake Tahoe, members of the Lake Tahoe Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will be joined by friends from the American Legion to participate in the nationwide reading on July 8 at 3 p.m. PDT at Lakeview Commons-Champions Plaza.
Members of the community, and visitors are invited to stop by and enjoy this patriotic gathering. It will be doing something positive together, reading the founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence.
