SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for another one of their Tahoe History Talks on the Beach this Tuesday, July 28, 2026. This week’s presentation is about the infamous and intrepid Charlie Parkhurst and Emma Lawrence. Learn about these two characters of the Old West, oddments about the legends of the Sierra wagon roads, and the fish stories of our great Inland Sea—Lake Tahoe.
Meet two historic figures of Tahoe’s past, one by land and one by water. Charlie Parkhurst, a Knight of the Road or stagecoach driver, held the reins over a six-horse team on the winding summits of the Sierra Nevada. Emma Lawrence, indomitable fisherwoman of Lake Tahoe, held sway over the Mackinaw with her trusty fishing reel as she navigated the waters in her small rowboat.
Who these people were… will surprise you. You will never forget their stories.

The final talk is their annual black bear evening presented by Toogee Sielsch, the local urbanized bear expert. This will be his only public presentation this year!
