SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – It might be summer and temperatures may still be in the 80s, but ski resorts are making their winter plans. Vail Resorts has announced Heavenly and Northstar are set to open for the 2026/2027 ski and ride season on November 20 and Kirkwood follows on December 4.
All opening dates are conditions dependent. A possible Super El Niño is putting this winter on the radar. No one can promise what the weather will deliver, but all eyes on on the forecast.
Follow the resorts’ websites and social meda for any updates to these dates.
Three mountains. Three ways to winter.
HEAVENLY | Views. Vibes.

NORTHSTAR | Traditions, elevated.
Pristine groomers, dreamy snow days, champagne Tōsts, S’mores, and a vibrant village. Family traditions that come back every winter, plus new ones waiting to be made.
KIRKWOOD | Steep and Deep.
From cradle to grave, Kirkwood is for the die hards. No frills, just pow days, challenging terrain, and a tight-knit mountain community.
