Lou Shaver was family to many in the South Lake Tahoe community, whether he was their coach, co-worker, or friend. To many in the community, he was known as “Uncle Lou” or “Coach Lou.”
Lou passed away at the age of 88 on September 21, 2026.
With his funeral on Tuesday, September 29, funds are being raised to help the family with final arrangements, funeral, and memorial/celebration-of-life costs, and to help the family with expenses as they grieve their Lou.
In a GoFundMe page, friends say he was a true pillar of our town—a constant, encouraging presence on the sidelines who dedicated years to coaching, mentoring, and guiding local youth. Coach Lou left a lasting impact on countless kids, instilling confidence, lessons, and memories that will stick with them for a lifetime.
“Losing him leaves an incredible hole in our hearts, but the imprint he left on this community will never fade,” states the fundraiser organizer. “Now, it’s our turn to show up for his family the way Lou always showed up for our kids.”
The GoFundMe page offers a central place for friends, former players, and community members to honor Coach Lou’s legacy and ease the burden on those he left behind.
Services are on Tuesday, September 29: St. Theresa Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m., followed by a burial at Happy Homestead Cemetery at 3 p.m. A reception will follow at Grace Hall, and all are welcome to attend.
