UPDATE 5PM: The California Highway Patrol says one person is dead, and two suffered minor injuries in a three-car collision in South Lake Tahoe Thursday afternoon.

At 1:08 p.m. on October 1, CHP says a Subaru driven by a Dayton, Nevada resident was traveling westbound on US 50 near Meadow Vale Drive when, for reasons currently unknown, it drifted onto the shoulder of the road. The driver then overcorrected and swerved into the eastbound lane colliding with the right side of a Toyota Rav 4. The Subaru then continued in a southwesterly direction and collided with a RAM pickup.

The driver of the Subaru was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their name has not been released.

The other two drivers had complaints of pain, with one having some abrasions. Those two were not transported to the hospital.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor according to CHP.

CHP is asking for witnesses to the crash to contact them at 530.539.9500.
