SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Send it with the Heavenly Competition Teams and join them for an Apres party at Lakeview Lodge this Saturday, March 30. The event runs from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. at Lakeview Lodge. If you don't have a pass, you can still access the event via the Tram.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase and there will be a silent auction and raffle. All proceeds benefit the Heavenly Ski And Snowboard Foundation, which supports the Heavenly Competition Teams.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The 64th graduating class at Whittell High School at Lake Tahoe will be its smallest with just six students.

The class started at the school with 35 students, then COVID happened and most did not return. There were five seniors when the school year started, then that dropped to four, and then there were six!

The class may be small, but they are mighty. One is heading to Camp Pendleton after graduation as a Marine, while his five classmates will continue their education.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Brook Adie has been tapped to be the next community services director for Douglas County. Adie served as the assistant community services Director from 2021-2023 and has been interim community services Director since July 2023.

“I am honored to be selected as the director of the department,” Adie said. “I have had the privilege of working with and learning from the previous director, Scott Morgan, who was with the department for 30 years. I have learned so much and I am excited for the opportunity to take his vision forward into the coming years.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously passed a motion Tuesday night for an ordination for the prezoning of 90 parcels that are currently in the El Dorado County boundaries. This was one step required of several, with more opportunities for the public to comment on the process in the coming months.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - March snowstorms have helped push the Sierra snowpack to just about average, allowing the ski resorts to keep operations open at several Lake Tahoe ski resorts. The 2022/23 season ended with the Central Sierra snowpack at 192 percent of normal, and as of today that total is 99 percent with more snow forecast before the end of the month. April 1 is the date normally used as the highest water content for the Sierra snowpack.

Kirkwood announced they will remain open until April 28, and Heavenly's last date is April 21. Sierra at Tahoe will also close on April 21.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County School Board Association has recognized the Marcella Foundation with the Outstanding Community Organization award, citing the Foundation’s contributions to the educational landscape of South Lake Tahoe. Thanks to our generous community who donated to our event, sponsored the skiers & riders and bought countless raffle tickets, we hit our fundraising goal. After a fun day on the slopes with over 40 participants (a record in itself), we continued our holiday celebration back at the temple to be entertained with a wonderful Barbie-themed Purim Shpiel (a play that tells the story of Purim) written & directed by our temple member and theatre master, Pam Taylor. The actors were our religious school students who put on a magnificent performance.

The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 2 celebrated its Administrators of the Year during a gathering at the Catta Verdera County Club in Lincoln.

This event spotlighted the dedication and achievements of educational leaders from ACSA's Region 2, which encompasses the Northern California counties of Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Sutter, and Yuba. Notably, several leaders from the El Dorado Charter received accolades for their exemplary service.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Tickets for the 35th annual American Century Championship (ACC) will go on sale Monday, April 1. The 2024 tournament will be held at Edgewood Tahoe July 10 – 14.

Earth Day in Tahoe is coming fast. Alongside community festivals, litter cleanups, and an atmosphere of doing right by the planet, an important change is coming to fight pollution here at home. Beginning on Earth Day, April 22, the sale and distribution of single-use plastic water bottles under one gallon will be banned in the City of South Lake Tahoe.

What does it mean?

A 7-year-old Tahoe City athlete is heading to the USASA Nationals Snowboarding Championships from March 29-April 9, and he is fundraising to help with expenses including airfare, entry fees, hotel, rental car, and food.

"Leland the Falcon" Vogt is the son of Chuck Vogt, the founder of nonprofit fundraising events Skake The Lake, Boarding for Breast Cancer, and owner of Tahoe Longboards.

As spring returns to Lake Tahoe, a story of resilience and resurgence is also unfolding. It’s the migration of the Sandhill Cranes – magnificent birds that once upon a time had all but vanished from the Tahoe region.

“March is a big month for Sandhill Crane migration over and through the Tahoe Region, as thousands of nocturnally migrating cranes will pass overhead,” says Tahoe Institute of Natural Sciences (TINS) co-founder and executive director Will Richardson. “but more and more, these cranes are stopping to spend the summer here.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – There will be a public meeting on April 10 to discuss potential new development at Zephyr Cove Resort. The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) and Aramark Destinations, the company that manages Zephyr Cove Resort, want to hear from interested community members and stakeholders about possible changes at the popular resort along the shore at Zephyr Cove.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday for areas above 7,000 feet.

Lake level is not included in this advisory.

Snow is forecast for the Tahoe Basin above 7000 feet with accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, locally up to 16 inches along the Sierra crest. Winds gusting as high as 90 mph along ridgelines.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) is inviting the public to see the newest addition to their fleet of firefighting apparatus. They will host a traditional new engine wet down and push-in ceremony to celebrate placing the new engine into service at Fire Station 1.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Tahoe Production House has announced an exclusive opportunity for aspiring actors and drama enthusiasts to discover their potential and refine their skills in the captivating workshop, "Unlock Your Inner Actor," led by the acclaimed Grant Davis. This immersive workshop is scheduled for April 6, 2024, at the Tahoe Production House Studio from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
