South Christmas Valley Firewise Defensible Space Work Day

A defensible space workday has been scheduled for the South Christmas Valley on June 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The hub of the workday will be at the corner of Portal and Beaver Brae.

The area’s Firewise group is organizing the day to help the neighborhood create defensible space around homes and home hardening.

The workday is set aside for Firewise communities to record the work done at each home, and track items left for chipping, all done to become fire safe.

What they need: Record the number of hours works, the number of 95-gallon waste cans filled and tree rounds under six inches left curbsite for the chipping services.

The California Conservation Corps lost their grant and will be unable to help seniors in the area as they did last year. The chipper will be on the North Shore on the cleanup day but it can be reserved and they’ll come by and pick up items left at the curb for chipping.
