SUMMARY:Community invited to Free America Walkout
DESCRIPTION:The SLT Democratic Club is encouraging people to come out to Lakeview Commons on Tuesday\, January 20\, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. in solidarity with this nationwide rally against Fascism. \nOne year into Trump’s second regime\, we face an escalating fascist threat: ICE raids on our communities\, troops occupying our cities\, families torn apart\, attacks on our trans siblings\, mass surveillance\, and terror used to keep us silent. It is time for our communities to escalate as well. The Walk Out takes place at 2 p.m. local time across the country: we will walk out of work\, school\, and commerce. We will withhold our labor\, our participation\, and our consent. A free America begins the moment we refuse to cooperate.

SUMMARY:Community workshop on Hazard Mitigation Plan
DESCRIPTION:South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) and Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) invite community members to participate in a public workshop to help update the region’s Hazard Mitigation Plan\, a critical roadmap for reducing risks from natural disasters and building a safer\, more resilient community. \n\n\n\nThe public workshop will be held on Wednesday\, February 11\, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the South Tahoe Public Utility District Board Room\, located at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive\, South Lake Tahoe. All residents\, business owners\, and interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend. \n\n\n\nThe Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies natural hazards\, assesses community risks\, and outlines strategies to protect lives\, property\, critical infrastructure\, and the environment from disasters such as wildfires\, floods\, and drought. Updated every five years\, the plan is essential for maintaining eligibility for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant funding\, which helps support local preparedness\, mitigation\, and recovery efforts. \n\n\n\nPublic input is a vital part of the planning process. Community perspectives help ensure the plan reflects local priorities\, experiences\, and concerns while strengthening long-term resilience. \n\n\n\nResidents are encouraged to attend\, ask questions\, and share ideas. SUMMARY:SLT Library: The Librarians screening and discussion
DESCRIPTION:SOUTH LAKE TAHOE\, Calif. – Indie Lens Pop-Up presents “The Librarians\,” a powerful look at the quiet heroes battling against book banning in America at the next South Lake Tahoe Library program on Tuesday\, February 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.\n\n \n\nThere will be a free screening of the 86-minute movie followed by a discussion\, all hosted by the Friends of the Library.\n\n \n\nIndie Lens Pop-Up\, presented by ITVS\, INDEPENDENT LENS\, and Friends of the Library will host a special screening of “The Librarians\,” followed by a Q & A with our local librarians. The documentary follows a courageous network of besieged librarians as they unite to examine how book restriction policies are shaping library collections.\n\n \n\nFrom Oscar-nominated Director and Producer Kim A. Snyder and Executive Producer Sarah Jessica Parker\, “The Librarians” takes viewers from Texas to Florida and beyond\, where local libraries have become unexpected battlegrounds in a national struggle over parental control\, intellectual freedom\, and democracy itself.  Sparked by the controversial “Krause List” in Texas\, which targets 850 books centered on race and LGBTQIA+ stories\, the film takes a deep investigative dive into the escalating movement against book banning. The film captures the courage and resilience of the everyday heroes\, librarians\, as well as concerned parents and students flanking them\, who have become first responders in the fight for the freedom to read\, standing defiantly against censorship at all costs.\n\n \n\nThe South Lake Tahoe Library is located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.
