Homewood could get a big overhaul

Redevelopment of the nearly 50-year-old property is described by resort owners and project supporters as a badly needed improvement that can help revitalize an ailing Tahoe economy while providing needed environmental protections.

Such is the case with "New Year's Eve," a multifaceted comedy of sorts playing at the Heavenly Village Cinema. The cast is all-star, from Hilary Swank to Robert De Niro. And while the film is pure twaddle, director Gary Marshall keeps all the balls in the air. And he should be able to; he made the same movie last year on a Valentine's Day theme.

The interpretive tours are intended to educate resort visitors about the natural and cultural history of the Lake Tahoe Basin, highlighting topics such as water quality, watershed restoration, habitat improvement, fire and fuels management and responsible recreation.

Submitted by Editor on Sat, 12/10/2011 - 10:41amThe holiday arrived early for 27 South Lake Tahoe non-profit organizations Thursday, Dec. 8, as $100,000 in charitable contributions was distributed on behalf of LIVESTRONG® and the American Century Championship by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.
“We’re fortunate to have the support from LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments to assist to the local community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA in a news release. “In addition to an outstanding event which attracts visitors, our 22-year partnership also helps local groups in need.”
