It is with the greatest joy, respect and admiration that I thank the 33
business owners/managers, South Tahoe Refuse, city council, service
organizations, fire department, forest service, community college, hospital
staff, district staff, news reporters and community members who attended the
Mt. Tallac High School community meet and greet!

The experience was amazing! Our students felt valued, excited and pleasantly
surprised by the community’s interest in their future plans and needs. We
can’t wait to work with each and everyone one of you who attended!

Three people were killed late Sunday night on Highway 50 in El Dorado County when the vehicle they were in went off the roadway and hit a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 11:50 p.m. east of the town of Fresh Pond.

Four people were inside an SUV when the driver missed a curve and caused the vehicle to go about 100 feet down a steep embankment, officers said.

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors spent the day in South Lake Tahoe, going on a tour hosted by Sue Novasel of District 5 which includes Meyers and the South Shore.

They were treated to a tour of Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care's current home by co-founder Tom Milham. They saw the bear cubs, otter, fox, raccoons, owl, birds and duck currently calling the wildlife center home.

Before having lunch at Lakeview Commons that was prepared by the El Dorado County Jail culinary team, the tour went through some of the county buildings in the area including the library and El Dorado Center.

Fall is here early and the pine seeds are ripening. The Sugar Pine Foundation has set some upcoming cone collection days so they can gather those seeds for future plantings.

This year, there are not many new sugar pines cones, but the western white pine cone crop is abundant. They will be collecting cones from the newly identified resistant western white pine at Heavenly near Maggie's Run on Tuesday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the first known resistant western white pine in our seed zone 772, so they are very excited!

El Dorado County's Transportation Division has announced upcoming partial and full road closures for Black Bart Avenue, Barbara Avenue and Martin Avenue in order to complete an overlay project starting September 21, 2015.

Black Bart and Martin Avenues are scheduled for directional closures September 21, 22 and 24 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. During these directional closures, motorists will only be allowed to drive in the direction from Pioneer Trail to U.S. 50.

What a beautiful experience! 6 local friends had a blast with the crew of ChasingSunrise this past weekend. The sunrise over Maggie's Peak was beautiful and the energy of the group was amazing!

5:17 a.m. - Vacation Rental Noise Violation - Cold Creek Ct - REPORT DOCUMENTS THE RESPONSE TO A VHR REGARDING A NOISE COMPLAINT.

Union Mine High School sophomores Nick Brown and Justin Schwartz had just finished leading their junior varsity football team to a 27-8 win over Foothill High School on Friday night when people noticed something wasn’t quite right.

Then Brown passed out, said El Dorado Union High School District Superintendent Stephen Wehr.

The two were rushed to the emergency care, Brown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and Schwartz to Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center, according to Wehr.

The South Lake Tahoe Rite Aid store is undergoing a major remodel along with about 450 other locations that will bring in changes, including a Thrifty Ice Cream shop and wellness center.

Now that history buffs have started the hunt with the City of South Lake Tahoe's week full of treasure, the Lake Tahoe Historical Society picks up the trail.

August 29 is the last day of the City's hunt. Maps can be picked up at any City facility including the Recreation Center, Explore Tahoe, the Campground by the Lake and Bijou Golf Course. The maps maps can also be downloaded. There will be a chance at prizes for those that complete the hunt.

For the second time in a week the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) has had to euthanize a black bear that was found near homes.

The bear was trapped overnight in the Kingsbury Area of Douglas County, and was put down because it was a danger to the public.

South Lake Tahoe police were called to Barton Hospital on Thursday, August 27 to investigate a call about a wanted subject on the premises.

Kelly Marcus Forte, 48, was wanted on a felony warrant from Riverside County with a bail of $100,000.

The officer arrived and contacted Forte at the hospital without incident.

He is currently sitting in the El Dorado County Jail.

There are more than 300 Reno families currently living in motels. It's a problem the City of Reno wants to deal with, so they're putting up the cash needed to help.

"One huge problem we see is the inability to save for a deposit,” said Hettie Ploeger, Resource Network Director at Catholic Charities. "Other issues might be substance abuse, mental health and also learning how to budget."

Those are problems the City of Reno wants to help people overcome. They've given a $100,000 to catholic charities for a program that gets people into stable housing.

Now that the last remaining building along the north side of Highway 50 between Friday Avenue and the Chateau at Heavenly Village is gone, crews have been preparing the space for what is going to be known as Zalanta Resort at the Village.

The first phase of this condominium project will begin as soon as building permits are issued by the City of South Lake Tahoe.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released their figures for the month of July, 2015 and they show Stateline casinos bringing in $23,313,076 which is 7.04% down from the same period in 2014.

When reviewing the whole state of Nevada, the big winner was the Elko County with an income up 10.14% for the county, 14.81% for Wendover. The big loser, the Boulder Strip with their income of $60,630,987 down 11.06% when compared to 2014.

The state "win" figure was down .96% with income of $922,886,804.

The gaming win represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

A Contra Costa Sheriff's deputy who died trying to rescue his friend who he believed was struggling in choppy Lake Tahoe waters earlier this month died from drowning, an El Dorado County Sheriff's official said Wednesday.

The preliminary autopsy report determined Carlos Francies, 30, of Sacramento, drowned on Aug. 13, according to the El Dorado coroner's office. A final report is weeks away, the department said.

One of the state’s greatest athletic challenges returns for a sixth year September 11-13 in a competition that’s as tough as granite.

The Graniteman Challenge, sponsored by the High Sierra Triathlon Club, is a unique three-day combination of the Granite to Granite Swim, a 2.4-mile swim in June Lake on Friday, September 11, the Mammoth Gran Fondo, a 102-mile bike ride on Saturday, September 12 and the Tioga Pass Run, a 12.4-mile run up Tioga Pass on Sunday, September 13.

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors will be holding their annual meeting in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, August 31. A full day is on the agenda, but very little will actually be in a meeting format.

At 9 a.m., Sue Novasel, the Supervisor from District 5, will give the Supervisors a tour of the new Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care at the corner of Al Tahoe Blvd and Pioneer Trail. They then move to the El Dorado Center at 10 a.m. for a tour of county facilities followed by a 11 a.m. tour of the Library.

Join the League to Save Lake Tahoe for a day of planting, weed pulling, and other restoration activities to preserve and protect Lake Tahoe's watershed during the
18th annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day on September 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This year they will be taking care of the Upper Truckee River. All volunteers need to meet at the corner of Barbara Ave. and Lodi Ave in South Lake Tahoe for a shuttle ride to restoration site.

Parents worried that their college-bound children might succumb to the temptations of campus life may want to take note of a new analysis that found that students tend to experiment with specific types of drugs for the first time during certain times of year.

Be captured on film forever when a drone flies over Lakeview Commons on Thursday to take the pfficial City of South Lake Tahoe's 50th Anniversary Photo.

There will be two photos taken, one at 6 p.m. and the other at 7:15 p.m. by Tahoe Production House. They will also be using a drone at the 6 p.m. photo shoot.

This will also be a celebration of the last Live at Lakeview concert for the summer
with the South Shore’s own Lavish Green taking center stage.

The United States Forest Service (USFS) and California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) will be trading 1,961 acres under a proposed land swap on the north, south and west shores of Lake Tahoe. Urban lots would go to CTC and the larger parcels would go to the USFS.

The agencies will hold two meetings where the public will have the opportunity to review the plan and offer feedback.

El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Meyers was booked and released from El Dorado County Jail on Saturday, a condition of his sentencing for driving under the influence in June.

Meyers’ attorney, Paul Zappettini, said Meyers was cited June 9 for driving under the influence of alcohol. He appeared in court Aug. 10 and received a five-day alternative sentence, which was served as house arrest, Zappettini said. He also was fined and faces suspension of his driver’s license. As a condition of his sentence, Meyers also was required to be booked at the El Dorado County jail.

What's not to love about sunrises and sunsets in Lake Tahoe? While it is fairly easy for most to catch a sunset, very few actually get to experience a sunrise because of the early hour.
