T.J. Maxx to open South Lake Tahoe store

After months of speculation, the City of South Lake Tahoe is pleased to announce the owners of the Garfinkle property located 2011 Lake Tahoe Boulevard (northeast corner of the “Y”) have signed a permit application to bring T.J. Maxx into the location as their new tenant. The owners have indicated they expect a spring 2012 grand opening.

“This is exciting news for the City and community, an excellent way to get New Year 2012 off to a great start breathing new life into that corner of the community,” said South Lake Tahoe Mayor Claire Fortier.

California high court says state can eliminate redevelopment

In a significant budget win for Gov. Jerry Brown and lawmakers, the California Supreme Court ruled today the state can eliminate local agencies that subsidize construction in blighted areas. The decision strengthens the state's ability to take funds from redevelopment agencies, such as the one at South Lake Tahoe, for the current budget. It also provides leverage for state leaders to use more than $1 billion annually in redevelopment property tax dollars to balance future budgets.

Freestyle skiing pioneer Wayne Wong to host camp at Diamond Peak

Diamond Peak Ski Resort on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is the home mountain for a January 7-8, 2012, ski camp hosted by legendary skier Wayne Wong.

The camp begins with an evening “meet and greet” at Village Ski Loft in Incline Village on January 6 and then continues with two full days of on snow instruction at Diamond Peak.
