Authorities find runaway who threatened a school shooting
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/15/2015 - 7:18pm9:45 p.m. update 10/15/15: Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports that the young man who ran away from China Spring Youth Camp was found at the Walmart on Topsy Lane and taken into custody. He was arrested without incident or injuries.
Numerous tips received by law enforcement led to his capture.

Victims in South Lake Tahoe plane crash are indentified
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/15/2015 - 11:23amThe El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two people killed in Saturday's plane crash in South Lake Tahoe.
California residents 73-year-old Conrad Yu of Oakley, and Mary Choy, 66, of San Francisco were killed when Yu's plane crashed shortly after take-off in the area near Elks Club Road an Pioneer Trail. The plane crashed into a tree adjacent to a home on Tionontati.
NTSB and the FAA continue their investigation in order to determine the cause of the crash.
South Lake Tahoe man wounded in drive-by shooting
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/15/2015 - 11:03amA 19-year-old man was shot in the leg overnight, apparently the victim of a drive-by shooting near the intersection of Highway 50 and Ski Run Boulevard. Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department were called to Barton Hospital just after midnight on the report of a man with a gunshot wound.
The unidentified man's injury is not life threatening according to SLTPD Lt. David Stevenson.
Since the shooting, police have recovered a truck near the "Y" that is suspected of being involved in the crime.

Another glimpse of fall starts Thursday with a 40% chance of scattered showers during the day and evening. Rain doesn't last long, with the area of low pressure moves out, leaving upper 60s and sunny skies starting Monday.
History Hike to Glen Alpine Springs

Even though my walk was mid-day on October 13, I passed many other hikers on the two-mile hike, all enjoying the warm, un-fall like weather.
Even though I've lived in South Lake Tahoe for 36 years, I'd never gone past Lily Lake. Wanting to get to the springs before winter, there was no time like the present to finally accomplish that task!
Meyers connects to South Lake Tahoe with Class 1 bike trail

Members of the El Dorado County project team were on hand along with current Area 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel and former Supervisor Norma Santiago. Partner agency staff were also there to celebrate the completion.

Prescribed burning starts Thursday at Burton Creek State Park

Operations will take place on 103 acres in Burton Creek State Park beginning Thursday, October 15, 2015, and will continue over the next several weeks as conditions allow.
Community asked to give final input on Regan Beach redesign

A final design was presented at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center on October 6, 2015 and approximately 25 people attended. In July there were 50 people at a public meeting where the top three designs for the beach were presented. In June, 24 people attended. An on ine survey was offered to the public for them to weigh in this summer, and the City received 320 responses.

For people like me, with metastatic breast cancer, it is “Pinktober” and a reminder that we will never be cured, because despite 30 years of awareness and fundraising, 40,000 Americans still die every year from metastatic breast cancer, just as many as died in 1970.

Son and mother both dead after domestic dispute at Minden home
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/13/2015 - 5:53am8 a.m. update 10/17/15: The shooter involved in Tuesday's domestic dispute has died, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced this morning.
A preliminary report shows that 27-year-old Jarek Kozlowski died of respiratory failure at the hospital October 16 at 7:40 p.m. DSCO said the report shows Kozlowski did not as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting incident.
Missing Sierra Nevada College student safe and back at school

Dianne Thacher is no longer missing and returned to her dorm room at Sierra Nevada College Tuesday afternoon. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that she is safe, not injured and that there was no foul play associated with her disappearance.

Barton Health selects new Chief Medical Officer

She will start her new job November 1.
Dr. Sneeringer has been a pediatric and adult hospitalist at Barton for the past three years. She currently serves as the Vice Chief of Staff.
"Dr. Sneeringer has shown commitment to quality and patient-centered care" said retiring CEO John Williams. "This commitment, coupled with her enthusiasm, will help continue our efforts to make Barton Health a community leader in health and wellness."

We at the Fire Department annually respond to numerous chimney fires, mainly due to creosote buildup in the chimney flue. This type of fire has the potential to extend into your house and do major damage.
To prevent this from happening, the Fire Department recommends periodic cleaning of your chimney.

Three men from Sacramento rescued from rocks in Desolation Wilderness
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/12/2015 - 9:05amA CHP helicopter crew and rescue personnel with mountain climbing experience had to be called upon the get three young people from Sacramento off a rocky Sierra Nevada outcropping.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office got a cell phone call for help in the early morning hours Saturday from the three stranded hikers. They were on a ledge in the Desolation Wilderness and could not safely go up or down.

Man sought after trying to abduct a woman in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/11/2015 - 6:33pmA man is being sought in South Lake Tahoe after an attempted abduction in the Stateline area on Saturday, October 10.
At 9:40 a.m., officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to the area of Park and Cedar Avenues after getting a call about a suspicious man who approached a woman, telling her he'd shoot if she didn't go with him. He simulated a gun inside the pocket of his grey hooded sweatshirt.
The scared woman ran away and the suspect fled the area prior to the arrival of police.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.
Successful Open House at South Lake Tahoe's three fire stations

The public was invited to get information, learn about fire safety, get free swag and win raffle prizes.
STAT members were on hand at all three locations as well. STAT, which stands for South Tahoe Action Teams, is a program is designed to incorporate trained citizens in the field with the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and other first responders during times of crisis.

Two people die as plane crashes in South Lake Tahoe after takeoff
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/10/2015 - 9:08pm8:00 a.m. update 10/12/15: Authorities spent Sunday removing parts of the plane that remained in trees surrounding the crash site that claimed the lives of two people in South Lake Tahoe.
Investigators say the plane hit trees before crashing behind a home on Tionontati Street just before 5:36 p.m. Saturday, October 10. A fire started which scorched the home.
The force of the crash broke a large tree just feet away from the house.
American Century Championship to give away another $55,600 to local charities

LTVA is now accepting applications from local nonprofits for distributions of $55,600 as a result of the 26th American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.
South Lake Tahoe man in jail on robbery, burglary, drug and assault charges

According to South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), Jesus Corona Mariscal went to the former girlfriend's home on Wednesday night. He entered the home, allegedly grabbed her throat and choked her, then stole her keys and phone, and left.

South Lake Tahoe breast cancer survivor shares her story
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 2:14pmSeptember 11 evokes a different meaning to South Lake Tahoe resident Christine O’Farrell. In 2002, on the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Christine was on the operating table at Barton Memorial Hospital facing a new threat: cancer.
Christine had been diagnosed with an aggressive case of breast cancer. At the time, she was 42 years old and working at Barton’s Home Health and Hospice for quality assurance and infection prevention. Her three children were 14, 12, and 9.

Low pressure system to brush Lake Tahoe; 70s all weekend

Southwest winds 10-20 mph are possible with gusts up to 30-35 mph. Choppy conditions can be expected on both Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Waves will build through the afternoon with wave heights around 3 feet possible across the eastern shores from Glenbrook to Incline Village.
Temperatures will be in the 70s all weekend.
Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Missing elderly Bay Area man found in Incline Village
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 6:58amWashoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen is praising the efforts of Incline Village Deputies and Search and Rescue volunteers who discovered the location of a missing and endangered elderly California man Monday in Incline Village.
“If you were to talk to the men and women responsible for this rescue effort, they will tell you that it is all simply part of their job or why they do what they do,” Sheriff Allen said. “As Sheriff, I will tell you that we should all be proud of their actions this week for I believe they saved a life that day.”

Two hurt in small El Dorado County plane crash
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/08/2015 - 8:59pmTwo men suffered moderate injuries Wednesday after a small plane went down at the Georgetown Airport, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said.
Emergency personnel from several agencies, including Cal Fire, Georgetown Fire and El Dorado County Fire responded, finding the single engine Luscombe plane down an embankment near the runway.
The impact of the crash bent the nose up almost 90 degrees.
People familiar with the aircraft's two occupants told FOX40 both are longtime Georgetown residents, and one is the owner of the plane and a flight instructor.
Shingle Springs daycare owner faces child endangerment and drug charges
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/08/2015 - 8:49pmThe owner of Country Baby Daycare in Shingle Springs was arrested on Tuesday after officers found her displaying the signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a central nervous stimulant.
Brigitte McAdams, 63, was the sole adult at the center when El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the business which is inside her home. They asked her how many kids were in the home, and, according to deputies, she was unable to account for them. McAdams originally told them seven, but they found just five.

Benefit concert in South Lake Tahoe to raise funds for Butte Fire victims

The local production crew, Mindful Massive, is putting on a concert in South Lake Tahoe Friday night to help the victims of the Butte Fire. It will be held at the American Legion from 9 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Tyler Mikkelsen of Mindful Massive said they wanted to do something to help those that lost everything in last month's devastating fire that consumed 70,868 acres, destroyed 475 homes and 343 outbuildings, damaged 45 structures and killed two people. A friend of theirs lived in Mountain Ranch and lost his home and belongings.
Senior nutrition program in need of volunteer drivers to deliver meals
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/08/2015 - 6:17pmThe El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program is currently looking for dedicated, caring volunteers in South Lake Tahoe to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens in the Tahoe Basin.
"We currently have a critical need for drivers in the Senior Nutrition Program in South Lake Tahoe," said Ruth Green, Program Coordinator for the Senior Nutrition Program. "We greatly appreciate the valuable service our volunteers provide! Without our volunteers many of the senior programs in our county would not be possible."
