"The Factory Stores at the Y" will soon be transformed into "The Crossing at Tahoe Valley" if the plan is approved by the City of South Lake Tahoe. In January, 2015, The Sutter Capital Group of Sacramento announced they had purchased the property after it fell into bankruptcy.

After a summer of softball games, the Stardust sponsored softball team became the 2015 Monday Night Co-Ed Softball Champions.

A home run by Leo Rodelo led Stardust to victory in the final game on Monday against Steamers, a game they won 16-15. Stardust ended the season with a 13-2 record.

A Nevada Department of Transportation project to repave and enhance Kingsbury Grade last year has received a Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Best in the Basin Award.

The project substantially completed ahead of schedule in 2014, and was recognized as a water quality and erosion control improvement that helped enhance the Lake Tahoe environment.

Everyone hopes for a winter of big storms at Lake Tahoe. Recent media hype evokes images of a "Godzilla" El Niño. But for Tahoe, big storms come with big impacts to Lake clarity as snowmelt and stormwater runoff transport pollutants and fine sediment into the Lake.

So how do Tahoe communities protect the Lake from big storm events?

Authorities have found the remains of at least two people inside a Garden Valley home found burned on September 13, 2015. The home belongs to a Benicia, CA family, Adam Buchanan, his 7-year-old son Gavin and Gavin’s mother Molly McAfee, who have been missing since September 11.

South Shore business Integrity Locksmith will celebrate 30 years in business this fall at their new location at 2331 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Owner Randy Llewellyn and the Integrity family will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting on October 1 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Medicare Open Enrollment is October 15 through December 7, 2015. This enrollment period is one of the few times Medicare beneficiaries can change, enroll into or disenroll from, a Medicare Advantage Plan (such as an HMO) or a Part D drug plan. Changes to plans will be effective January 1, 2016.

A South Tahoe High School senior was injured on Tuesday afternoon when the bike she was riding collided with a big rig truck.

The student, who's name is not being released due to her age, was riding her bike eastbound on D Street, when, for unknown reasons, she failed to stop at the stop sign at the road's intersection with Highway 50.

She ran into the truck just in front of the trailer's front tire. The student ended up in the dirt after her bike was smashed by the truck.

There will be a South Lake Tahoe community blood drive on Friday, October 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rec Center gym. Walk-ins are welcome.

All participants will receive a free t-shirt.

BloodSource is holding the blood drive to meet the community need for blood and blood products. The blood drive is sponsored by the Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

You'll soon be seeing red if all goes as planned.

The annual trek of the Kokanee salmon into Taylor Creek from Lake Tahoe should begin in the next week or so, but with the drought and a very active beaver population, the Forest Service had to step in and help.

"We didn't have a lot of fish last year," said Lindsay Gusses, the Taylor Creek Site Supervisor. "We are updating our strategies to have fish here during the festival."

It is time once again for traditional South Lake Tahoe kick-off of the holiday season over the last 24 years, the Tahoe Toy Run.

Motorcycles full of toys for local youth in need will make their 25th run down Highway 50, this year from the airport to Sonney's BBQ Shack on October 3 starting at 10 a.m.

Bikers will start lining up the airport, which is located at 1901 Airport Road in South Lake Tahoe, at 10 a.m. for a 12 p.m. departure.

They will then proceed down Highway 50/Emerald Bay Road on the way to the party at Sonney's at 787 Emerald Bay Road.

A mother bear and her three cubs visited the campus of South Tahoe High on Monday, causing some excitement. Students said they saw the momma bear sit down while her cubs were playing around.

Nobody was ever in danger and the bears left several minutes after arriving.

The school contacted El Dorado County Animal Control for guidance in handling the situation. The School Resource Officer Andy Eissinger was on campus so they told Animal Control they didn't need to respond as there was no danger.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County in partnership with California Emergency Food Link will be in South Lake Tahoe to host a Mobile Food Pantry Distribution on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to bring food to those who need it most.

The Butte Fire near Jackson, CA continues to burn but is now 74% contained. So far, 70,760 acres have burned. The destructive and deadly fire destroyed 545 homes and 356 outbuildings, as well as damaging another 42 structures. Two civilians have died in the fire.

During the September 15 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, a man who identified himself as Ross Tisanrich approached the speaker's podium during the public comment period. He said he was a local wildland firefighter and wanted to bring the use of pesticides to a halt. He told the council he would drink the chemical weed killer Round-Up if they wouldn't commit to ending the use of pesticides that get into Lake Tahoe.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.

The inaugural Tahoe Games Bike Night Series, presented by On Course Events, Tahoe Center for Orthopedics and the Lake Tahoe Golf Course will conclude with the final races of the season on Saturday, September 26.

These family-friendly x-country night bike races feature a custom illuminated course that runs through the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, over fairways, into the rough, through sand traps and over bridges with the occasional cart path. The course is approximately 3 miles per lap, with most classes riding 2 laps.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and South Lake Tahoe Police Department will be taking back unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, September 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Lira's Market in Meyers.

Take expired or unused drugs as the disposal site. No sharps will be accepted.

Prescription drug abuse continues to be a problem in the community, and removing unwanted containers of drugs from medicine cabinets will take them out of the hands of abusers.

Matthew Muller, the man who was tracked to South Lake Tahoe after a home invasion robbery in Dublin, plead no contest to the crime this week in Alameda County Court.

The Reno Gazette-Journal filed a lawsuit Friday against the city of Sparks in an effort to compel them to release the names of medical marijuana business licensees.

As the newspaper expands its coverage of Nevada’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry, the RGJ has requested and collected copies of current business licenses for cultivation centers, dispensaries and production facilities in the area. Reno and Washoe County both have policies to release all of the information that the licenses entail.

A series of classes to be held in South Lake Tahoe will be giving instruction and support to caregivers who are, or are planning to care for a family member or friend 60-years-old or more.

The free classes will be held at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel on five nights:

In September, longtime physician Dr. Paul Marlowe will say farewell to his patients and the urgent care practice where he has provided care for 32 years as he embarks on an adventure with his wife Lorraine. The uniquely quirky and endearing Dr. Marlowe is known throughout the community for providing exceptional care since 1983.

The inaugural South Tahoe Community Carnival will be held at the South Tahoe High School on Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be games, prizes, a velcro wall, Sumo wrestling, performances, food, fun and school tours.

The carnival ill be set up at the school's softball field.

Last year, all students at South Tahoe High School were able to receive a free yearbook and they'd like to continue that tradition. All funds raised at the carnival go to support the STHS yearbook.
