SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Career Technical Education (CTE) team with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District is holding a Family Fun Night on Wednesday, March 8 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

All families and students K-12th grade are invited.

The CTE teachers, students, and professionals from each pathway will have booths set up with more information about the CTE programs at South Tahoe High School. The four focused pathways are Allied Health, Media Arts, Hospitality and Tourism, Environmental Science and Engineering.

Tahoe Women's Community Fund offers $100,000 in grants to local nonprofits

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Women's Community Fund has announced it has $100,000 to donate back to the nonprofits of the community, and the grant cycle is now open.

Nonprofits that serve the South Shore of Lake Tahoe are eligible to apply.

City Council commits over $850,000 to microtransit in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The successful multi-agency partnership that brought Lake Link Microtransit Service to South Lake Tahoe and Stateline will be continuing. The City of South Lake Tahoe contributed $150,000 for the 2022-23 pilot year, and the city council Tuesday committed another $200,000 - $150,000 for the 2023-24 service year, and $50,000 for the remainder of the fiscal year 2023 since the original agreement ended in June, the city's fiscal year ends September 30.

Businesses sought for inaugural student job fair in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Looks for good summer help? The Tahoe Learning Haven is looking for 20 businesses to participate in a student job fair on Wednesday, May 10 at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. The fair is for teens ages 14-18. It will be from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The students will be prepared with resumes and will be motivated and ready to interview. They will be prepared and ready to WOW business owners!

Family of Kris Jackson settles for $4.5M in civil lawsuit against City of South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe and the parents of Kris Jackson have reached a $4.5 million settlement.

Jackson, who was 22 at the time, was shot by a South Lake Tahoe police officer as he exited a motel room by a rear window at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn on June 15, 2015.

City Attorney Heather Stroud announced the settlement at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

10th annual Noble Deeds to award $200,000 in digital services to Nevada non-profit

Noble Studios is celebrating a decade of providing pro-bono digital marketing services to Nevada nonprofits with another request for applications for its 2023 grant cycle. To date, Noble Studios has given more than $1 million in promotional benefits. Organizations ranging from national park foundations to environmental causes, museums, education, and fair housing have been part of the “Noble Deeds” program since 2013.

Escaped bear cub still on the loose in South Lake Tahoe, but search parties are discouraged

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Seiad, the orphaned bear cub that escaped from Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC), is still missing. The cub arrived at LTWC in December from the Seiad area in Siskiyou County in Northern California. The cub is about 12-13 months old and gained about 25-26 pounds since arrival and weighs about 50 pounds. He is healthy, has no medical issues, and has lots of survival skills.

Orphaned black bear cub escapes enclosure in South Lake Tahoe, public's help sought to locate him

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) are asking for the public’s help in locating a young, orphaned black bear that has escaped from LTWC’s facility on Al Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe where it had been rehabilitating since mid-December.

The 13-month-old male black bear weighs approximately 50 pounds, is microchipped, and has a visible, metal tag in its right ear numbered 1028. The bear escaped from LTWC’s outdoor enclosure Thursday evening, Feb. 9, at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Almost 10,000 truck loads of snow removed from highway in South Lake Tahoe this season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has snowed a lot in South Lake Tahoe this season, and the record-setting snow hasn't ended yet. Caltrans District 3 is responsible for clearing the snow off the state roads, 1,330 lane miles worth at Lake Tahoe, some of those on the South Shore.

As the highway goes through the community, snow cannot be stored on the sides of the four- and five-lane road as it can elsewhere as businesses and homes line those sides. Instead, it is trucked to the end of Sierra Boulevard to the Caltrans snow dump.

Increase of 911 calls after phones and watches think their skiing owners are hurt

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An upgrade to the safety features of the Apple Watch and iPhone 14s is providing false calls to the 911 dispatch center in South Lake Tahoe as well as those in other ski areas.

This new software upgrade is meant to detect car crashes and automatically alert 911 dispatchers. It is so sensitive though, when a skier or snowboarder falls in the snow, the device calls for help, thinking the user has been hurt.
