Cave Rock and Sand Harbor boat launches closed Christmas and New Years Day
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 12/21/2011 - 7:56amThe Lake Tahoe boat launch facilities at Cave Rock and Sand Harbor are closing on both Christmas, December 25, and New Year’s Day, January 1, 2012. No inspections or decontaminations will be available either of these days.
These closures are due to the holidays and program staff shortages. Normal operating hours throughout the winter are daily, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Cave Rock and Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Sand Harbor. Efforts are underway to adjust and extend these hours to better accommodate fishermen.

Northstar California did up things well Tuesday (name change, used to be "at-Tahoe") by officially opening its new multimillion dollar Zephyr lodge at the top of Zephyr lift and a new chairlift, the Promised Land Express. The new quad chair services two new trails. This completes a spending program of $30 million on upgrades, trails and support activities at the Lake Tahoe resort.

On the west side of town, two new buildings are under construction and one is for sale: a Raley's gas station at its shopping center at the "Y" and a new California Conservation Corps facility in Meyers, next to Lira's Supermarket, are currently being built, while Sierra Recovery Center is seeking to move out of its location on Emerald Bay Road.
