Event Date:
February 26, 2021 - 12:00pm
Vitalant has had to cancel dozens of blood drives due to severe winter weather, resulting in more than 1,200 blood donations going uncollected. They are putting out a community-wide request for blood at its upcoming Blood Drive on Friday, February 26 in the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center gym from noon to 5:00 p.m.
There are a few more appointment slots open. To comply with social distancing practices donors are encouraged to please make an appointment but walk-ins will be accommodated if space allows.
Vitalant will test donations for COVID-19 antibodies.
Please schedule an appointment by calling Vitalant at 866-822-5663 or go HERE.
Power Red Donations: The most common blood components transfused to patients are red cells. When you give a Power Red (also called double red) donation, you double the impact of your donation because you are giving two units of red cells. Click here to learn more about donating Power Reds.
To prepare for your donation:
A mask or face covering is required.
For eligibility questions call Vitalant at 866-822-5663 or go to https://www.vitalant.org/Basic-requirements (COVID-19 eligibility is listed on the website).
If you’ve received the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine there is no deferral for blood donation as long as you can identify which vaccine you’ve received. If you’ve received a COVID-19 vaccine that is not Pfizer or Moderna then donors are deferred from donating blood for two weeks after they’ve received the vaccine.
Please bring a photo I.D.
Eat a hearty meal and drink plenty of water prior to donation (two to three 8 ounce bottles of water two hours before donating).
16-year-olds must have a signed Vitalant parent consent form which can be found at Click here for parent consent form
The gym is located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.
