Chad Donnelly, SnowGlobe, updates community on plans

To the South Lake Tahoe Community:

Per the February 6, 2018 City council meeting, the settlement agreement of $250,000 from SnowGlobe was approved for the rehabilitation of the Community Play fields. With the opportunities provided by the cooperative weather and with the ultimate goal of having the field play ready in time for soccer season, city engineers have developed a timeline for the field restoration to start as early as 4/16/18.

Public Works associate engineer Chuck Taylor and his team are currently preparing the plans and specs to repair the damage and believes they "will have the field ready for the coming soccer season. With the mild weather, the odds to get the work done sooner than later is looking better."

With the city's guidance, our internal SnowGlobe team has developed a complete field cover plan (as opposed to the partial cover used for 2017) to effectively mitigate the impact of attendee foot traffic on the sod for the 2018 festival and beyond. SnowGlobe is contractually required to cover all damages to the field and that responsibility will continue indefinitely -- but given the high demand for the field from the athletic community -- our longterm goal is to minimize our impact so the field remains play-ready all year round.

Following the February 6th council meeting, our internal team met with Mark Salmon and Brian Hogan (local soccer coaches and organizers of Come Up For Air) to discuss their event and better understand how the field restoration impacts their operation. SnowGlobe is committed to supporting their association, tournament and players in any way we can, including, but not limited, to covering the difference in cost of utilizing other turf fields if the Community Playfield is not play ready.

In addition to the $250,000 settlement agreement, SnowGlobe donated $50,000 to the Community Play Consortium to help reduce rental fees associated with community use of recreational facilities.
