An officer with the California Highway Patrol was hit by a SUV on Interstate 80 at 2:25 p.m. Saturday, sending him to Renown Medical Center with multiple injuries.
According to CHP-Truckee, the officer was finishing up working a different collision scene when he was hit by the westbound vehicle at the Castle Peak off-ramp.
The CHP reports that the officer suffered from multiple injuries, including internal injuries and broken legs. He was transported by ambulance to Reno, the nearest trauma center, as weather prevented a helicopter from responding.
The interstate was closed for a time after the accident but has since reopened.
