House fire in South Lake Tahoe displaces family

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe home is a total loss after a Tuesday evening fire on Heather Lake Road.

At 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the single-story home to find a fully developed fire. It was knocked down quickly but the damage had already been extensive.

No fire spread to adjoining properties or nearby Bijou Elementary and it was contained to the home, said SLTFR Battalion Chief Karl Koeppen. Lake Valley Fire and the CalTahoe JPA also responded with Tahoe Douglas Fire providing support in the town. There were no injuries.

Three residents of the home were displaced. Koeppen said they were given a California Fire Foundation’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) card to cover one night's lodging and a few supplies.

The home was red-tagged, all utilities were shut off for safety and the home was turned over to the homeowner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by SLTFR but Koeppen said the cause appears to be electrical.
