EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the annexation of the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District into the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, getting all parties closer to the final step in a lengthy process.
The County's Ad Hoc Annexation Committee along with the Chief Administrative Officer's office both made the recommendation to dissolve Meeks Bay Fire and annex the district to North Tahoe Fire.
The move makes fiscal and practical sense due to the proximity of Meeks Bay to North Lake Tahoe and
The next step is the same agenda item in front of the Placer County Board of Supervisors during their May 21 meeting in Kings Beach. If the annexation passes that group, it's onto Placer County LAFCO for a final determination.
"This has been a very lengthy (years) process and is truly a benefit to our community," said Edward Miller, longtime Meeks Bay Fire board president.
The North Tahoe Fire Protection District has provided fire protection and advanced life support services to the Lake Tahoe West Shore area of El Dorado County through a shared services agreement with the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District since 2014.
The supervisors approved a lump sum payment of $992,000 to the North Tahoe Fire Protection District to provide financial assistance through the reorganization transition until full efficiencies can be achieved. They will pay up to $42,000 to the North Tahoe Fire Protection District to assist with
the payment of LAFCO’s fees and costs for processing the reorganization on January 25, 2022.
