Boys and Girls Club receives donation for new building from Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra has donated $1000 from their Meat Raffle fundraiser to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe's (BGCLT) "Building Bright Futures” project.

Unable to have its usual in-person fundraiser, the Kiwanis Club teamed up with Overland Meat & Seafood Co. during the pandemic and raffled off a Family Pack of meat and seafood. Proceeds from the raffle went to the building fund.

"It was a really fun and successful fundraiser”, said Kelly Meyer, president of the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra. “We are excited to support a local business and donate to the Club at the same time. In this challenging time, we were pressed to do something, anything, that would enable us to continue to serve the South Lake Tahoe community. This fit the bill.”

The new building for the kids is being constructed at the old Al Tahoe Elementary school site, adjacent to its current home. It will provide the Club with a permanent home, something the Club has dreamed of for 30 years. The Club broke ground in June 2020, thanks to a $3 million dollar donation from Lisa Maloff, the Angel of Tahoe. The full cost of construction is $6.7 million and the Club has been working hard to raise the additional funding.

“We are so grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra for their donation to our new building,” said Jude Wood, BGCLT executive director. “The building is progressing well, but donors like the Kiwanis Club are vital to ensuring that we can complete the building and keep serving our kids and community.”

Any business or individual interested in being a donor to the Building Campaign should contact Jude Wood on 530 542 0838 or jwood@bgclt.org.
