Another sign of the drought: City of South Lake Tahoe to keep boat ramp closed in 2022

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has closed its boat ramp at El Dorado Beach to all motorized vessels for the 2022 boating season.

Due to low lake levels, it is unsafe to launch a motorized boat at this location, the City said. The ramp never opened in 2021 for the same reason.

Non-motorized boats can still access the lake from the boat ramp. The El Dorado Beach boat ramp is located on Highway 50 at Lakeview Avenue.

This follows the announcement from Nevada State Parks earlier this spring that they would not open its boat ramp at Sand Harbor.

The legal limit of Lake Tahoe is 6,229.1 feet above sea level with the natural rim at 6,223 feet. As of Monday, May 23, 2022, the level of the lake is 6,224.41 feet.
