Prepare for emergencies with South Lake Tahoe Reverse 911

The power outage that hit the whole south shore last week was the perfect example on why all residents should make sure their cell phones are their contact number for Reverse 911, a system in place that will alert you in the case of an emergency.
Before this week many residents had just their land lines posted on the Reverse 911 system and they didn't receive the warnings because of the lack of electricity in their homes.
The City of South Lake Tahoe is asking all residents, both in the city and in the county, to not only sign up for Reverse 911 but to also have their email address, cell phone and land line as points of contact.
The process is easy.
First, you can go to the City's website for a complete description or proceed right to the county's Reverse 911 site.
Under the "register your account" select the phone, cell phone or email symbol. Once you go to the next step you will still have the chance to enter all forms of communication you want to be contacted at.
Once completed you will get an email. You will not be registered until you click on the accept email link.
