Lake Tahoe and Sierra roadwork for August 25 - 31

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are still almost two months left of scheduled roadwork around the Lake Tahoe Basin before winter hiatus. Most traffic-interfering work will be limited from 6:00 a.m. August 30 through 8:00 p.m. September 3 for Labor Day weekend. Exceptions may be granted depending on the work and route.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Motorists can expect intermittent short delays on State Route 89 at Sugar Pine Point State Park in Tahoma from 6:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24 and from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, August 25 due to the Lake Tahoe Triathlon.

The following are the Caltrans projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Sierra and El Dorado County:

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $5.2 million project to upgrade metal beam guardrail and construct concrete barriers at 89 locations from the Red Hawk Undercrossing to 1.9 miles west of the junction with State Route 89 in Meyers. Completion is expected this fall or spring 2020. August 25-27 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from El Dorado Road to Wrights Lake Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can the #2 lane and right shoulder closed or one-way traffic control at various locations from 10 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday and 6 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday for guardrail replacement work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $4.7 million project to install drainage sand traps and maintenance vehicle pullouts at various locations on U.S. Highway 50 from Riverton (Ice House Road) to Kyburz. Completion is expected this fall. August 25-27 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bridal Veil Falls to 30 Mile Stone: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 9 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday and 6 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday for storm drain work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $14.1 million project to replace the Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct, located 7 miles west of South Lake Tahoe. This project is replacing the current bridge, built in 1939, with a new structure to meet current design and safety standards. Completion is expected in fall of 2020. August 25-30 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the Caltrans Echo Summit Maintenance Yard to Johnson Pass Road (east end): Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 9 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday and around the clock from 3 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Friday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $7.3 million project to convert the existing “T” intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 89 in Meyers into a three-legged roundabout with a westbound bypass lane and a bike path extension. This project will reduce the number and/or severity of collisions at the intersection. Completing is expected this fall. August 26-30 -U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Cirugu Street to Navaho Drive in Meyers: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. Monday and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday for asphalt paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $57 million project from the “Y” intersection at State Route 89 to the Trout Creek Bridge in South Lake Tahoe. This project is building new drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater runoff, rebuilding curbs, gutters and sidewalks, widening the highway to allow for bike lanes and resurfacing the roadway. Completion is expected this fall. August 26-30 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Silver Dollar Avenue to the Trout Creek Bridge: Motorists can expect traffic shifts, nighttime lane reductions and shoulder closures around the clock from 5 a.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Friday for curb, gutter, sidewalk and electrical work.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $35 million project in Tahoe City to build a new Truckee River bridge east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard with roundabouts on either end of the realignment, drainage improvements, paving and a shared-use path connection. August 25-30 - State Route 89 (Placer County) from Granlibakken Road to the Caltrans Tahoe City Maintenance Yard: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 10 p.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday and from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday for highway construction work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from the Long Ravine underpass to just east of the Magra Road Overcrossing: Final roadwork resumes on a $50.6 million project to construct a three-mile truck climbing lane on eastbound I-80 and make other improvements to the interstate just east of Colfax, including replacing and widening the Cape Horn undercrossing bridge. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled this week.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from the I-80/SR 49 interchange to Dry Creek Road: Construction began June 17 on a $40.5 million project in Auburn. The project will rehabilitate existing pavement and drainage, improve operational features and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities. August 25 – August 30 - State Route 49 (Placer County) from Persimmon Terrace to Nevada Street/Marguerite Mine Road: Northbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights for roadway excavation.

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Estates Drive to Fox Street in Kings Beach: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control or lane shifts intermittently at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for sewer work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Cameron Park Drive: Motorists can expect the eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from Traverse Creek Road to Garden Valley Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for tree work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from Chili Bar to Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for guardrail work.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Luther Road to Kemper Road/New Airport Road: Southbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, and 7 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Hulbert Way to Atwood Road: Northbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, and 7 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for roadway excavation.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Bell Road to Locksley Lane: Northbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday for electrical work.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from West Empire Street (SR-49 junction) to Dorsey Drive: Eastbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for core drilling and a crack seal operation.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Washington Road to the I-80 junction: Westbound motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday for rumble strip installation.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) from Woodridge Drive to just past Combie Road/Wolf Road: Motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday for utility work.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) from Crestview Drive to West Empire Street (SR-20 junction): Northbound motorists can expect intermittent lane, shoulder and ramp closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Tuesday for a crack seal operation.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Dry Creek Road to Hummingbird Lane: Motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for rumble strip installation.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Moonshine Road (Yuba-Nevada County line) to just past Camptonville Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for a paving operation.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from the Lager Beer Sidehill Viaduct to Fiddle Creek: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday for guardrail work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Wild Plum Road to Chapman Creek Campground: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for a crack seal operation.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from the Bowman Undercrossing to the Haines Road Overcrossing: Westbound motorists can expect a right shoulder closure around the clock through December 2019. Detour signs will be in place for a County bridge deck replacement project.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the eastbound/westbound Gold Run State Roadside Rest Areas: Motorists can expect a full closure of the rest areas around the clock Sunday through Saturday for sewer repairs.

Interstate 80 (Nevada Counties) from Cisco Grove to the Castle Peak Undercrossing: Westbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. Monday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday. Eastbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Construction crews are replacing metal beam guardrail with concrete barriers.

Interstate 80 (Nevada County) from the Acid Flat Bridge to the Nevada-Sierra County line: Westbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday for rumble strip installation.

Interstate 80 (Sierra County) at the Nevada State line: Eastbound motorists can expect traffic control from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday to assist the Nevada Department of Transportation with drainage work completion.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) from Upper Little Truckee Campground to Cottonwood Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for miscellaneous work.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) at Little Truckee River: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control, shoulder and median closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday for guardrail work.

State Route 174 (Nevada County) from Bear River Bridge to Lower Colfax Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday for utility work.
