Air Quality listed as "good" as smoke remains in Lake Tahoe basin

Update 9/1/13 9:00 am: South Lake Tahoe has grey skies this morning but they are due to a combination of cloud cover and a little smoke. Air Quality is listed as "good." The Rim Fire is 40% contained and has burned 222,777 acres. There were some spot fires that broke out over night due to winds. The heavy fuels are experiencing complete combustion. The containment date announced on the fire website yesterday is incorrect as is still officially September 20.

Update 8/31/13 8:21 am: The Rim Fire is now 35% contained and has burned 219,277 acres. During the night the fire jumped Old Yosemite Road, prompting expanded evacuations. The fire officials have now moved the projected containment date out to October 20. The air in South Lake Tahoe today is listed as "good" with an AQI of 4 as of 7 am.

Even though there is still smoke in the air, the Air Quality Index lists the air as of 1 pm in South Lake Tahoe as "good." The satellite imagery shows a thin veil of smoke over Lake Tahoe.

The Rim Fire near Yosemite, the cause of most of the smoke, is at 32% containment. The other fire responsible for filling Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada with smoke recently, the American Fire, is now 100% contained.
