LTUSD school breakfast and lunch program free through December

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be able to offer free meals to all students through December due to the U.S. Department of Agriculture extended all Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Seamless Summer Option (SSO) waivers. Earlier this week they had issued instructions on how to pay for meals and submit income verification applications for free or reduced price meals, but these are no longer required.

These programs are extended in response to the nationwide COVID-19 pandemic

This allows schools to offer meals to all children at no charge this fall and minimize the challenges of meal service during a pandemic and ensures schools can continue to meet students' nutritional needs this fall.

These waivers are extended through December 2020. LTUSD will be notified if the USDA plans to extend beyond this date. If this waiver is not extended the District will be collecting income applications for Free & Reduced meals beginning in December. In the meantime, all submitted applications will be destroyed.

LTUSD will be proceeding with meal delivery to bus stops and pick up availability at four school sites from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. weekdays at Bijou Community School, Sierra House School, Tahoe Valley School and South Tahoe Middle School. All children from the ages of 0-18 may receive a packaged meal that can be reheated at home. Each child can receive breakfast and lunch daily.

The previously announced procedure about student IDs being required to get meals at buses is on hold due to the above changes.
