At least two homes destroyed, one hurt in South Lake Tahoe fire off of Pioneer Trail

10:51PM: Peter Darvas, the South Lake Tahoe artist whose home burned in the fire off of Pioneer Trail on Tuesday, was listed in fair condition at Barton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

UPDATE 8:12PM: Some EMT and outside fire agencies that responded as standby to Tuesday night's fire off of Pioneer Trail are returning to their headquarters, an indication that the worst of the fire, which consumed at least two homes, is under control. And as reported earlier, residents who were evacuated are being allowed back into their homes. Fire agencies responded quickly to the scene, reported shortly before 6 p.m.

UPDATE 7:48PM: Residents who were evacuated from Edna street are allowed to return to their homes. But no vehicles are allowed into the neighborhood, according to firefighters on the scene. Those not living in the neighborhood that was evacuated will not be allowed in, according to South Lake Tahoe dispatchers.

UPDATE 7:42PM: One of the two homes in the fire off of Pioneer Trail and April near Edna that burned belonged to well-known artist Peter Darvas. City officials report that Darvas was burned in the fire as he tried to put it out. He is reportedly at Barton Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 7:22PM: At least two homes that burned out of control off of Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe near April, Edna and Ralph have been knocked down, according to fire fighters on the scene. The fire did move into the forest area and spread into trees and the incident is considered an active wildland fire. There have been evacuations in the area of Edna.

There's been no word of containment or how far into the forest the fire has spread. The Tahoe Daily Tribune has reported that at least one person was burned in the fire.

Police on the scene are directing traffic off of Al Tahoe Boulevard, Pioneer, Wildwood, Glenwood and all side streets. There have been evacuations in the area around Enda and power lines were reportedly down at April and Pioneer streets. Southwest Gas has been called to shut down area gas lines. A helicopter has been seen in the area but it is not known if it is dumping water on the flames.
A command center was established at Pioneer and Glenwood and multiple fire agencies have responded. Fire agencies from outside the area have responded including Lake Valley Fire Protection, Tahoe Douglas, East Fork Fire Protection District, and Carson City Fire Department.
It is not known what started the fire, which was reported shortly before 6 p.m.
