Tahoe History Talk to feature “Glenbrook - from Timber to Tourism”

Event Date:
October 15, 2024 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society (LTHS) is hosting its next Tahoe History Talk on Tuesday, October 15 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Museum Complex.

The guest speaker is Susan Magee Clemons, president of the Glenbrook Historical Society whose mission is to preserve, promote, and communicate the history and heritage of Glenbrook, Nevada.

Susan's presentation, “Glenbrook—from Timber to Tourism,” will include a slideshow of Glenbrook, then and now.

Today Glenbrook is a peaceful community nestled on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. Before the turn of the last century, however, Glenbrook was just the opposite: a bustling, industrial center where the trees surrounding Lake Tahoe were milled and sent off to Virginia City.

Beginning in the early 1900s, Glenbrook’s popularity as a resort destination was taking off. Scenic beauty, alpine lake activities, and discreet privacy brought many interesting characters to Glenbrook.

All are welcome to the free presentation, and donations are accepted. Refreshments will be served.
