LTUSD - Tuesday meeting to discuss leadership restructure, back to school progress, enrollment

The Board, staff and public will hear from Superintendent Dr. Todd Cutler on a proposal to structurally align the requirements, titles and salaries within the Leadership of Lake Tahoe Unified School District. New titles include Assistant Superintendent/Chief Education Officer, Associate Superintendent/Chief Business and Operations Officer.

Also on the agenda is the safe learning environments in schools for staff and students. There will be discussion about air quality through the use of air filtration systems, air quality measurement, and maintenance of existing HVAC systems. The District intends to apply for AB841 funding for continued air quality mitigation, replacement of outdated heating and ventilation systems, touchless water stations, and other energy-efficiency and indoor air quality upgrades allowed under the funding parameters.

Dr. Cutler will present enrollment figures. The creation of a new alternative education school and other factors resulting from COVID-19 have affected enrollment and staffing at the school sites. Enrollment data by school, by grade, and Districtwide, will be compared to the previous school year. From October 2, 2019 to October 7, 2020, LTUSD lost 195 students, but since October 14, 24 students were added to the District.

From October 2, 2019 to October 7, 2020, Bijou is down 71 students, Lake Tahoe 85Environmental Magnet School is down 20, Sierra House down 90, Tahoe Valley down 85, South Tahoe Middle School down 177, Mt. Tallac down 5, online programing dropped from 39 to 21, and Nevada students attending LTUSD schools dropped from four to one.

On the other side of things, South Tahoe High gained 21 students, and alternative program Elevated, new this year due to COVID-19, has 186 students and Independent Learning Academy is up 67.
