Chilly nights, sunny days for South Lake Tahoe in the week ahead

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Colder, well below average temperatures will prevail much of the week before milder air returns for next weekend. Lighter winds return Monday before a reinforcing shot of colder air and brisk northeast winds return Tuesday. No rain or snow is expected for the next week.

Monday night and Tuesday, low pressure moving south through the eastern Great Basin will push a reinforcing shot of colder air into the region. While the upper system is too far east for any hope of rain or snow, it will drive temperatures back down into the 40s during the day and teens overnight. The reinforcing high will bring
another round of easterly winds over the Sierra with gusts 50-80 mph possible for exposed ridgelines. There is also likely to be notable chop on Lake Tahoe with winds gusts around 30 mph possible.

Temperatures remain well below average through Thursday as an upper ridge builds overhead mid to late week. Mornings will be quite chilly as well with cool afternoons and very dry air allowing for excellent radiational cooling. Temperatures are expected to rebound to around average for next weekend.
