One woman dies, two children injured in early morning collision south of Lake Tahoe

One person died and two children were injured in an early morning traffic collision Monday morning at Picketts Junction.

At approximately 4:25 a.m. on November 14, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified of the solo vehicle collision. CHP units arrived and found a white 2019 Hyundai sedan had collided with a small boulder. It was determined the driver of the sedan had been traveling southbound on SR-89, approaching SR-88 (Picketts Junction).

For an unknown reason, the driver failed to navigate the roadway and continued straight off the road, colliding with the small boulder. The driver suffered fatal injuries, and the two juvenile passengers suffered moderate to major injuries requiring medical transport, via helicopter, to Renown Hospital.

The driver has been identified as Noelle Elizabeth Rivera, 33, of Fair Oaks, Calif. The children in the car, a 7-year-old male and a 9-year-old female, are also from Fair Oaks.
