Douglas County looking for Clerk/Treasurer to fill anticipated vacancy

In anticipation of the resignation of the county's Clerk/Treasurer Ted Thran, Douglas County is looking for a committee to help find a replacement as well as county residents to fill the position.

Thran resigned in August but was re-elected in November. His second resignation is expected. The term will begin on January 5, 2015.

The Douglas County Clerk/Treasurer manages various County services including elections, Tahoe DMV, marriage licenses, treasury, and several others. The elected Clerk/Treasurer manages two large offices and the personnel who perform services in support of these functions. The two requirements for the position are residency (candidate must reside in Douglas County) and they must be registered to vote in the County.

The term of office for an elected Clerk/Treasurer is four (4) years. However, an appointee can only fill an elected office until the next ensuing biennial election, which will be 2016 for a term beginning January 2, 2017.

Desired qualifications include 3-5 years of professional experience in treasury management including custody of public funds, property tax management, public funds investment portfolio management, and supervisory experience.
