Kudos: Vail EpicPromise Grant funds Kirkwood Mountain Adopt A Day Sponsorship

In each community where Vail has ski resort facilities, the community's non-profit organizations can apply annually for Vail’s EpicPromise grant funds to support their organization’s mission. Bread & Broth has been a fortunate recipient of grant monies since the inception of the EpicPromise Grant program.

Initially, grants awarded to Bread & Broth were used to fund twelve annual Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorships split between the two local Vail Resorts - Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Over the years, as Bread & Broth expanded its food outreach services, the EpicPromise grant funds increased to support the B&B 4 Kids program and Bread & Broth’s “Green Goal” program.

Implemented in 2016, the “Green Goal” program’s purpose was to improve the nutritional value of the food that was bagged and given away at each of B&B’s Monday Meals. Currently, B&B spends $1,000 weekly to purchase dairy products (milk, eggs, and butter) and fresh fruit and vegetables to fill the “food giveaway” bags for the Monday Meal dinner guests.

On Monday, November 6, the Kirkwood Mountain Resort Adopt A Day crew members not only helped pack the healthy “Green Goal” food into giveaway bags but also served a hearty meal of meatloaf, red potatoes, salad, and rolls partially funded by EpicPromise grant monies.

During their AAD service, James Fox, Product Sales and Services assistant manager, and Justin Hartwell, director of Skier Services, collaborated to provide their thoughts about their volunteer experience.

“It always feels great to be able to support the local community and it’s a beautiful thing to see what a handful of volunteers can do for so many people,” they said.

Thank you to the Kirkwood AAD crew members and the Vail EpicPromise grant program for their role in serving a hot, nutritious meal and easing the impact of the inflated cost of food on our communities’ struggling neighbors.
