SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a prescribed burning operation underway Wednesday at the Lake Tahoe Airport. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, in conjunction with Lake Valley Fire Protection District and Cal Fire, is pile burning on ten acres around the airport. The burning caused some concern from residents who saw the flames and smoke in Johnson Meadow.
The ignition was December 11 with the first five acres, and the operation with smoke will go into Thursday when another five acres are burned.
Called the "Airport Fuels Reduction Project," the fire could affect those sensitive to smoke in neighborhoods surrounding the airport.
In the photo above, prescribed fire operations can be seen from Emerald Bay State Park where 10 acres are also being burned, along with 15 acres in the Cascade area.
