SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - US50 is now open at Echo Summit after boulders fell onto the roadway overnight, causing the road to be closed for three hours.
Crews from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) moved the boulders and debris onto the shoulders in the middle of the night but will be back on Wednesday to finish cleaning, which involves some blasting.
Travelers can expect the road to be closed when blasting occurs. Once that time is known this story will be updated, but it is expected midday.
There is a chance of some lingering rain in the area on Wednesday as the current weather system moves east.
Plan ahead if traveling over the summit, and follow https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ for the latest information.
